I hope you are tuned into the Tournament of Books on the Morning News website. The commentary about the books has been good reading. The judges are taking this very seriously. (As seriously as some people take March Madness). Whether you've read the books or not there is wonderful insight offered by a new judge every day.
My favorite book of the year, The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje, is out of the running. My friend and writer, Haven Kimmel, was judge today and chose Swamplandia! by Karen Russell over The Cat's Table. I can't complain. I haven't read Swamplandia! yet. But I will now just to experience what Haven describes thus, "I will say that from the midpoint until near the end I wasn’t at all sure of what I was reading, and that fact—along with riches too numerous to count—made my heart speed up with a kind of delicious dread."
Stay tuned. There is bound to be more interesting debate about good books to come.
